Join The Great Bubble Barrier in our mission to combat plastic pollution by leading technical projects that make a real impact on our oceans and rivers.

As the Technical Project Manager, you will oversee and coordinate feasibility studies for new projects and ensure smooth realisation once the project is confirmed.

Working closely with our technical team, local authorities, and other stakeholders, you will manage project planning, budgeting, and execution, ensuring that each Bubble Barrier installation is delivered successfully. Your role will be essential in aligning technical requirements with operational, sales, and marketing teams to drive the success of our initiatives.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced project manager with an engineering background to contribute to the fight against plastic pollution through innovative technology.

Key Responsibilities

Project Feasibility

  • Lead feasibility studies for new Bubble Barrier projects in collaboration with the technical team
  • Coordinate technical assessments, stakeholder consultations, and site evaluations to determine project viability
  • Prepare and write feasibility reports, ensuring they align with both technical requirements and business objectives

Project Realisation & Management

  • Oversee the implementation of approved projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
  • Maintain effective relationships with local authorities to manage permits, partnerships, and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Keep timesheets and capacity plans up to date, check and control deliverables and fulfil reporting obligations
  • Manage project budgets and report financial updates to the Chief Operations Officer

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the main point of contact between our Operations, Technology, Sales and Marketing & Communications teams to ensure alignment of project requirements.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
Skills & Qualifications
    • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Industrial Design or a related field
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in technical project management (More than 3 projects; at least 1 with a minimum value of 500.000 EUR)
    • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of water management, mechanical systems, fluid dynamics or environmental engineering
    • Project Management: Strong ability to manage multiple technical projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery
    • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities
    • ProblemSolving: Ability to identify and address engineering challenges in real-time
    • Language Proficiency: Working proficiency in English and Dutch
    • Mission Alignment: Genuine interest in ocean health, sustainability, and preventing plastic pollution
    Work Requirements
      • Working Hours: 36 – 40 working hours per week
      • Location: Office-based with flexibility for remote work

        • For two weeks twice per year
        • For one week four times per year

      Collaborating closely with our Marketing & Communications Director, your work will elevate awareness of The Great Bubble Barrier’s impact and contribute to global conversations on sustainability. Additionally, you’ll help showcase pioneering governments and corporations that partner with us, giving them a platform to inspire change. Through strategic collaborations with international platforms such as the World Economic Forum, BBC, and CNN, as well as national outlets like NRC and NOS, we have already reached millions worldwide.

      Key Responsibilities 

      Public Relations & Media Outreach

      • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Director to develop a PR strategy to increase The Great Bubble Barrier’s media presence and public awareness
      • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, influencers and media outlets locally and internationally
      • Manage press inquiries, draft press releases, create press briefings and coordinate media interviews
      • Organise press events and media coverage for major milestones, including Bubble Barrier launches and key announcements
      • Monitor media coverage and report on the effectiveness of the PR strategy

      Digital Marketing & Social Media

      • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Director to develop a digital marketing strategy to increase brand awareness and gather new business leads
      • Oversee The Great Bubble Barrier’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok & Bluesky)
      • Create social media content that engages our followers and grows our reach, using strong visuals matching our brand guidelines
      • Manage email marketing campaigns and newsletters to maintain audience engagement
      • Track and analyse our digital marketing performance

      Website Management

      • Maintain and update The Great Bubble Barrier’s website to ensure it is informative, engaging, and optimised for SEO
      • Write and edit compelling website content, blog posts, and articles that align with The Great Bubble Barrier’s mission

      Communication Materials

      • Create high-quality communication materials, including brochures, reports, and presentations, to support our project and sales teams
      • Develop storytelling content highlighting The Great Bubble Barrier’s projects, impact, and mission
      • Support the promotion of The Great Bubble Barrier at events by providing the sales team with event-specific marketing and communication materials
      • Ensure brand consistency across all internal and external communication channels
      Skills & Qualifications
        • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.
        • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience working in PR, communications, or digital marketing, preferably in an environmental, social enterprise or nonprofit setting.
        • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities
        • Language Proficiency: Working proficiency in English and Dutch

        Join The Great Bubble Barrier in the fight against plastic pollution by supporting our Sales and Business Development team with a strategic lobbying agenda to protect our oceans and rivers.

        As a Policy and Advocacy Intern, you will be part of an energetic team and gain valuable experience in policy research, and advocacy campaigns while contributing to a worthwhile cause.

        The Great Bubble Barrier is a Dutch social enterprise, founded in 2017, which developed an effective technology to stop plastic pollution in rivers before it flows into our oceans, using bubbles. Our Bubble Barrier technology captures plastic across the entire width and depth of rivers, operates 24/7, and does not disrupt regular river activities.

        You will be working on:

        • Policy Research & Analysis – Conduct background research on emerging policy issues, analyse data, and summarise findings in reports or briefs to support decision-making.
        • Policy Monitoring – Monitor relevant legislations, regulatory changes, and policy developments at local, national, and international levels, and provide updates
        • Event & Meeting Coordination – Scheduling, organising and preparing for meetings with key stakeholders by providing research materials and assisting with the creation of the agenda.
        • Advocacy Support – Helping to draft policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials.
